Hana, Maui – Hawaii-50 birthday holiday

Far far away from Waikiki & the commercial world is a place of paradise on the east coast of Maui.

To get here you drive the Highway to Hana, only just over 50 miles but with over 600 bends, 40 bridges and a sheer drop off a cliff on single track narrow roads you can’t concentrate on driving & scenery at once. So many pull-overs to admire the views and the journey takes about 4 hours at an average of 20mph.

This uncrowned corner of the tropics has mountains, red, black and golden sand beaches, bamboo forests, waterfalls & pools.

The surfing is good even the local dogs surf. I’ve seen many local surfers early morning on my sunrise runs. As well as local cowboys from the ranch looking out for their calfs.

Seen plenty of whale action each day including an impressive slap down by two males.

Roadside BBQ & fresh fruit stands feed us. Huli Huli chicken, ribs, fish tacos, ranch beef.

Our home for 6 days is a cottage on Hamoa beach voted one of the top 5 in America.  Perfect white soft cresant sand beach guarded by black lava rocks with black sand & red sand beaches either side.

Chillax phrase was made for this place. Doesn’t get much better than this !
