In reverse order for the week the first part of my Olympic dream was being one of 5,000 lucky runners that were able to run 5 miles around the Olympic park and into the stadium and across the finish line on the track.
History maker 🙂 First time ever public been allowed on track before Olympians.

Starting outside the stadium we ran around the velodrome, aquatics centre, water polo & hockey arenas, Copper Box, media centre, basketball hall, the Orb and RUN sculpture. We were entertained by steel bands, quartets, brass bands and rockers on the run route. The stadium entertainment was hosted by Ewan Thomas and Holly Willoughby with many BGT finalists including Flawless, cheerleaders girls quartet, singers and the Olympic mascots.

Amazing atmosphere in stadium – my husband & sister had spectator passes to go inside. We ran under the stadium seating along a corridor to the Chariots of Fire theme ! then out on to the track to the roar of the spectators – awesome. I stopped on the back straight for a ‘Bolt’ pose photo in front of Mike & Sue and 10,000 others – got a cheer! Then zigzagged across all lanes down 100m straight to the finish, swooping along arms out wide 🙂 My last 300m on track probably the slowest as I savoured the moment, whilst others went for a sprint finish around the track for a moment of glory. For me it was about the experience – and it lived up to all expectations and more.

Once in a life time experience – awesome.
My other Olympic dream came in the form of an email confirming that I will be a Gamers Maker for London 2012. The volunteering role I have been given is Event Service Team Leader at the Royal Artillery Barrack for 10 days of shooting events.
So summer holidays in Woolwich this year for me ! Role specific training weekend of 14th /15th April already in diary, then Leadership and venue training to come, pick up accreditation and my uniform, then let the Games commence – I love all Olympics but this one will be extra special as on home soil and I can be part of it, watch it and have run it, not many will have all three of those honours or opportunities.
Final Olympic week high – Special Games Event train tickets now bought for going up to the Velodrome for mens & women’s track team sprint event and medal ceremony.
So apart from reaveling in my Olympic dreams this week what else have I been up to ?
Got back into the pool after 2 weeks of being dry – hard effort and shows I really do need to get wet more often ! Served me right as I got calf cramps 😦
On the hottest day of the year so far I ran 16 miles with Karen in 22c heat and sun. It really battered my legs, probably as never got back on top of hydration for a couple of days. So needed an emergency massage on Friday from Romy so I could run on Saturday. Her magic fingers worked 🙂
I managed a spinning class but only one ride out on the Felt with Jacquie on Sunday, though we better after looking at forecast for snow this coming week – wheres that coming from ?
Weekly mileage creeping up to 60 for the week, needs to get much higher in April as off on hold in May so will plummet again as running only mileage to be logged.
Monthly mileage highest so far at 208 miles for March
haha man thats awesome…I can’t wait for the Olympics to start!
Have you got tickets to the Olympics, volunteering or just enjoying on TV ?
Love the olympics summer & winter.
