Forward Planning – 2015 Race Season Sorted !

2015 race planner coming along nicely, in fact its just about complete now 🙂 with key races & accommodation booked.  Whats your 2105 season looking like ? I’ve been using my volunteer credits from my ribs recovery time when I marshalled and helped at a number of late summer events, these now have been used to cover race fees which makes a huge difference. I have also decided to camp at the majority of events, some free, others just £10 for a weekend, this will help keep costs down but allow me to be part of the race scene and camping on site will allow a little lay-in on the morning of the race ! 70.3 / middle distance is my main focus for next year with a sprinkling of sportives and swims in rivers & sea thrown in for interest, plus I’m going long but across three days at the Tenby Long Weekend which will give sea swim, hilly sportive and a half marathon. Coach Neil seems to think its a balanced plan and after a few suggestion from him I tweaked a couple of races. Now I just need to get back into the habit of training. Officially it starts all over again 1st October but I have eased back in. Swimming is still a little painful so I have subsisted rowing for swimming session for October, turns out I must have damaged the muscle, possibly a tear or split. With swimming being my strongest discipline being out of the water won’t be too big an issue for me and I can catch up in the pool over winter. The autumn / winter season will see more trail running with my dogs and friends, social rides with coffee stops and local mini sportives, snowboarding holiday and pheasant shooting season starts in October so plenty of hill walking whilst caring a 12 bore often in ankle deep mud ! I have made my self a Winter Training Grotto for when the weather gets really bad and I get snowed in or surrounded by flood water. The garage now has a rower, treadmill and turbo so I can do a Dry Tri – row, bike & run. I have a few local running races between now and Christmas plus a late autumn sportive to round things off and have some fun. I’m going back to do Silverstone, Longleat sportive, Dartmoor Classic as I enjoyed these ones this year and all had great scenery or interest and were well organised events.

      • Right now I have the Sedona Half Marathon and the Boston Marathon planned.

I am going to research a fast, flat Olympic Tri for a Fall “A” race. I’m sure I’ll squeeze some other races in the schedule too.

Have fun with the river swims. Those sound interesting 🙂

    • The races are quite spread out apart from August but focusing on my three A races / Staffs Ely & Weymouth the others are treated as long training days. Also 113 is a free entry & local so more social than speed ! My coach days it’s doable and well balanced. Need go get more sea training in through summer.
