Summer days

Typical British summer – we go from hailstorm & gales one weekend in Wales to the hottest weather for a prolonged period since 1976

1976 the year Concord first flew, we watched it from our new house in Hartburn, went on a family holiday to London where the polarbears & penguins at London Zoo were having ice blocks delivered throughout the day. We walked through Hyde Park licking ice creams as it was far too hot to venture onto the tube.

Summer solstice was a beauty this year with clear skies for a stunning sunset & sunrise. We are now on the way to winter with nights closing in.

Taking advantage of the hot weather and as I didn’t make it to Lakesman at the weekend as not ready to tackle the distance ( I got a refund on insurance with doctors note as asthma diagnosed after I’d entered)

So did my own home tri – a little paddle in dogs pool, a 30mile bike ride for ice cream & coffee to Royal Wootton Bassett. It was so hot 30c that the tarmac was melting on roads and to finish my home tri I did a little walk with Jango in the evening up the lane when cooler.

Love summer 😎🔥☀️

Boom 💥 lap record at Castle Coombe for me on Tuesday sub 5 minutes, best previously was six and half minutes. Riding around in 32c temperatures but the surface held up. Sun glaring off the solar panels as it topped them up to the max.

For my run intervals I headed to the air conditioned gym and treadmill – summer use of membership appreciated. Even though cool I still sweated like a leaky sprinkler and got very warm !

Next adventure, off to France as 5 go cruising on the Midi canal. Currently 38c but due to drop to around 30c so at least we are acclimatised.

So with the hottest June for decades and an official met office heatwave it’s been a mixed bag from scortcher with some winter storms sprinkled in.

  1. I can remember seeing Concord from Ham Common when I was very wee. Well, not that wee. Can’t believe you are getting records in this heat…
